Unit LOD System Rollout
January 15, 2026
StableRendering / Units
Rollout scope
Unit LOD is now active as a core render path, reducing geometry cost while preserving battlefield readability. The rollout covered both initial integration and immediate quality follow-up.
The emphasis was smooth distance transitions rather than raw triangle reduction only.
- LOD selection is now integrated into regular unit rendering flow.
- Distance behavior is tuned for strategic readability.
- Follow-up fixes addressed visible quality inconsistencies.
Quality stabilization pass
Post-rollout tuning targeted pops, silhouette drift, and material mismatches between levels. This was necessary to make the performance wins production-safe.
The system now behaves more consistently across camera zoom and movement.
- Transition quality was improved for common camera paths.
- Material consistency is stronger between LOD tiers.
- Silhouette stability improved at tactical zoom ranges.
Long-term value
A stable LOD foundation enables larger battles and more complex scene composition without immediate performance collapse. It also creates headroom for future visual upgrades.
Future changes can now tune quality/performance tradeoffs with clearer control.
- Supports higher practical unit counts per scene.
- Provides budget headroom for effects and environment detail.
- Creates a scalable path for upcoming content growth.
